Reynvaan Syrah Foothills Reserve 2014

|An early bottled effort that’s made from 100% Syrah, the sensational 2014 Syrah Foothills Reserve is a notch darker in color than the 2013 and offers layers of ripe Syrah dark fruits, olive tapenade, pepper and crushed rock like minerality. Coming from a cool site on the eastern edge of the Walla Walla Valley, where the Syrah is just on the edge of where it can get ripe, this medium to full-bodied, seamless, elegant beauty will stand toe to toe with the top wines of the northern Rhone. It will drink well for 10-15 years.
Like a lot of 2013s, I found that these latest bottled wines from Reynvaan were slightly more impressive from barrel than bottle, and I was left craving a touch more flesh and texture. Nevertheless, these are beautiful, elegant wines that have tons of character. The whites have also shifted in style from the previous richer, more textured releases to highlighting more freshness and acidity.
