K Vintners 'The Boy' Grenache 2013
Checking in as a blend of 88% Grenache and 12% Syrah, Smiths’ 2013 The Boy is about as sexy and seamless as Grenache gets. Giving up full-bodied notes of kirsch liqueur, dried flowers, blackberries, lavender and a kiss of olive, it has a great texture and good overall concentration, and while it’s already approachable, it should be at its best from 2018-2025.
These latest releases from Charles Smith check in at the top of the pyramid and are flat out incredible wines that I wish every reader could taste. Readers should also check out the new label, Wines of Substance, which are also included in this report. Going forward, the K Vintners label will be for the Rhone inspired blends, and all Bordeaux blends will be moved to the Wines of Substance label.
